- Abstract
This research investigates the efficacy of additional seismic stations, which were deployed in the Western Quebec Seismic Zone as part of the US Transportable Array during 2013-2015, in the determination of earthquake source parameters. The study is concentrated on three sets of data: the aftershock sequences of the 2010 Val-des-Bois and the 2013 Ladysmith earthquakes and the 18 events with MN≥3 occurred during January 2013 to July 2015. The relocated hypocenters of the two-aftershock sequences using the double-difference algorithm and joint hypocentre determination show insignificant changes in focal depths and slight variations in the trend of the seismicity. Relocation of the 18 events using the standard arrival times method demonstrates more reliable focal depths. Although favourable coverage can be can be slightly more effective in obtaining more accurate hypocentres for small earthquakes, the focal mechanism solutions are not remarkably changed when more data from the combined seismic network are used.
